Containerized, Canopy or Open-Skid Generators — Which One to Choose?

Jul 18, 2026

Diesel generators come in several enclosures, and the right one affects noise, weather protection, mobility and cost. Here's a quick comparison for UAE conditions.

Open-skid generators

The engine and alternator on a bare steel base. Lowest cost and easiest to service, but noisy and exposed — best for indoor plant rooms or already-sheltered sites.

Canopy (soundproof) generators

Enclosed in a weatherproof, sound-attenuated canopy. Quieter and protected from sun, sand and rain — a popular choice for commercial buildings, events and rental across the UAE.

Containerized generators

Built into 20ft or 40ft ISO containers with integrated fuel tanks, ventilation and fire safety. Rugged, secure and easy to transport — ideal for offshore, oil & gas, remote and long-term sites. See our containerized power.

Which should you choose?

  • Budget / indoor: open-skid
  • Noise-sensitive / outdoor: canopy
  • Harsh / remote / long-term: containerized
